1. In your own words, describe the role of the architect - with regards to duties and responsibilities.
It’s extremely important that the architect when stipulated as a project manager or nominated project manager regulates the happenings on site and as an Architect or a given any construction project you have to be familiar with the National Building Regulations and so your proposals have to run between the lines of the NATIONAL BUILDING REGULASTIONS* as they state. Architect need to be familiar with time planning as with long term goals as well as short term goals and this has to be clearly stated in a document so that the whole workforce can comprehend to it. They have to find out exactly what the client wants and need to make key decisions regarding all that is stipulated out along the way.
2. What is understood by the following terms:
A. Tender Documents:
· A written request sent out to potential suppliers of merchandise or a type of service itself, to notify them about the information required intended for the customer.
· The client will then see on the tender the price, availability and proposed delivery terms& conditions and so the client will have an overlook of what complies with the tender.
· Basically a tender is list the items and quantities prepared, expenses received, outstanding amounts & addresses to where shipping should take place.
B. Bills of Quantities:
· It’s a detailed list of materials of quantities ordered, payments recieved, labor or services (with cost), required to build, uphold, repair or restore a job.
C. Signing of Contracts:
· It is a written & signed conformity between two parties.
· Signing of a permissible deed & undertaking a oath to comply with the rules & regulations as set up in the specific contract, basically declaring your services.
· If you have doubts about the contract you can hold it back for speculation as the signee is not allowed to pressure you.
· You the right and should be able to understand & comprehend to a contract, before you sign.
· The contract should have a wide overview of ALL the terms & conditions that could be part of the current of potential action.

The following set of laws were altered last year…
1. The Sheerflex Coating System
The Sheerflex Coating System is a two-coat application for use in all regions of South Africa for all types of occupancy classifications (SANS 10400: Table 1 of Regulations A (20) (1)), on sound, suitably prepared, external and internal surfaces as follows:
· sand-cement plaster
· sand-cement bagged finishes
· cast in-situ concrete/ precast concrete
· the above surfaces previously painted with polyvinyl acetate (PVA) paint
· prepared gypsum and fibre cement boards
The Sheerflex Coating System is a two coat ready-to-use, water-based flexible acrylic emulsion wall coating. It is available in a range of colours and packaged in 5 litre and 20 litre containers. It is thoroughly stirred on site before application. It is applied using a block brush or a lamb’s wool roller.
This certificate and Agrément South Africa’s assessment apply only to the Sheerflex Coating System manufactured by the certificate holder and applied by trained applicators to suitably prepared surfaces as described and illustrated in this certificate, and where terms and conditions of certification are adhered to.
2.Compressed earth blocks building system
The certificate covers the use of the Compressed Earth block Building System in all areas of South Africa for the erection of single buildings for occupancy classes set out below (SANS 10400: Table 1 of Regulation A (20) (1)):
· detached domestic residences and dwelling houses and related outbuildings (H3 and H4)
This certificate and Agrément South Africa’s assessment apply only to Compressed Earth Blocks Building System buildings that are designed, manufactured and erected as described and illustrated in this certificate, and where the terms and conditionstion are complied with.
3. Eco Building system
The certificate covers the use of the Eco-construction Building System in all areas of South Africa for the erection of single-storey buildings for occupancy classes set out below (SANS 10400: Table 1 of Regulation A (20) (1)):
· place of instruction (A3)
· moderate and low-risk commercial service buildings (B2 and B3)
· offices (G1)
· hotel (H1)
· domestic residence (H3)
· dwelling house (H4)
· moderate risk storage (J2)
· low risk storage (J3)
This certificate and Agrément South Africa’s assessment apply only to Eco-Construction Building System buildings that are designed and erected as described and illustrated in this certificate, and where the terms and conditions of certification are complied with.
4.Aamsa's alternative BUILDING
The certificate covers the use of Amsa’s Alternative Building System in all areas of South Africa for the erection of single storey buildings for the uses set out below (SANS 10400: Table 1 of Regulation A(20)(1):
· places of instruction (A3)
· moderate risk commercial services (B2)
· low risk commercial services (B3)
· offices and clinics (G1)
· dormitories and hostels (H2)
· domestic residence (H3)
· dwelling house and related out buildings (H4)
This certificate and Agrément South Africa’s assessment apply only to Amsa’s Alternative Building System that is designed, manufactured and erected as described and illustrated in this certificate, and where the terms and conditions of certification are complied with
5.BUILDING SYSTEM
The certificate covers the use of the Mi Panel 2 Building System in for the erection of single and multi-storey (up to four storeys high) buildings in all regions of South Africa for occupancy classes (SANS 10400: Table 1 of regulation A (20) (1)) set out below:
domestic residence (H3)
dormitory (H2)
dwelling house and related outbuildings (H4)
hospital (E2)
hotel (H1)
low-risk commercial service buildings (B3)
low-risk storage (J3)
offices, including day-care clinics (G1)
